Door-knobs are defined as handles on a door or drawer typically shaped like a ball. Door-knobs come in a variety of options such as:
Entry -knobs are operated by a key on the exterior side of the door and a push button or thumb turn on the interior side of the door. Typically you will find an entry knob on exterior doors of a house or an office.
Storeroom -knobs are operated by key on the outside at all times. Unlike an entry knob, a storeroom knob is always open on the inside, locked on the outside and does not feature a button on the inside
Privacy -knobs also have operable knobs, but can be locked by a push button or thumb turn on the interior side of the door. These knobs can be unlocked by an emergency release key from the exterior side, and are typically used on bedroom and bathroom doors.
Passage -knobs are non-locking. Unlike other knobs, passage knobs cannot be locked and do not feature a key or push button/ thumb turn on either side. They are typically used on doors that do not require security or privacy such as closets, laundry, hallways or pantries.
Dummy -knobs have inoperable knobs on one or both sides of the door. Like the passage knob, the dummy knob cannot be locked and does not feature a key or push button/ thumb turn on either side. They are typically used on doors that do not require security or privacy such as closets, laundry, hallways or pantries.
Communication -knobs have keys on both sides. These can be used in schools or offices. The turning key in either knob locks or unlocks its own knob independently.
